E-Waste

 Digital Waste

Digital waste is the discarding of technology that is no longer used. Devices can contain rare-earth materials and chemicals that should not be disposed of in ordinary means due to their environmental impact and their cost. All businesses must consider legal and environmental factors when disposing of digital technology or equipment. HDDs and other storage devices also should not be sent to landfill. This is due to sensitive information being held on them. The impact on businesses for not getting rid of this technology properly can be a breach of legislation or a security risk.
