What is EDF energy 

EDF energy is a British power company that designs, builds, and maintains power plants and stations in the UK. EDF is responsible for building Hinkley point C in Somerset, the largest nuclear power station in the UK, containing 2 nuclear reactors. It is currently one of the largest construction sites in the world. 

 

What laws apply to EDF energy? 

    • The data protection act and GDPR – Like every other company, EDF must protect its sensitive data especially when dealing with nuclear power. All the employees have sensitive data that must be kept secure and protected from hackers. Here is their privacy policy. 
    • H.S.E - For EDF, HSE is a crucial law. It requires them to protect their employees whilst building and working in a nuclear power station. Harmful radioactive material should be effectively managed to ensure the safety of employees working around it. Also, proper equipment must be provided for builders, especially working at height. 
    • Public sector bodies accessibility regulations – EDF must ensure they meet accessibility requirements for all publicised content including websites, press releases and applications. This aims to increase internet accessibility for people with and without disability. An accessibility statement must be created in an accessible format to provide clarification on the regulations that should be met by the content which would be kept under regular review.     • Computer misuse act – This law outlines the illegal use of computers. EDF must make sure their employees are not doing anything illegal whilst using computers. They can enforce this through company policies such as BYOD (bring your own device) and employee monitoring. 
    • Freedom of information act – This legislation states that EDF must provide accurate information from an information access request if its approved.
