Who oversees the FoI Act? 

The FoI is overseen by the ICO (information commissioner’s office). They are responsible for upholding rights for the public to view digital information freely.


What type of information cannot be requested under a FoI access request? 

Some types of information are classified under the FoI Act. This contains information that is already publicly available and information from court records. Also, information that may endanger health and safety, prejudice law enforcement and someone’s commercial interests. 


Identify one absolute exception contained in the FoI act 

One absolute exception contained in the FoI act is information regarding national security. An absolute exception means that there is no obligation for the ICO to release the requested information. National security is required for the safeguarding of public interest and keeping national security information private and confidential. 


How many types of information have to be published by the authorities? 

The FoI mandates that figures of authority must publish 7 types of information. These are: who we are and what do we do; policies and procedures; what we spend and how do we spend it; what are our priorities; how do we make decisions; lists and registers; the services we offer.

 

Identify one type of information that must be published by authorities 

One type of information that must be published by authorities is their policies and procedures. These include what policies are in place in and outside the workplace, what these policies include and who abides by them. They also outline the usage of these policies and how they affect their employees.
