Network hardening
Network hardening
Network hardening is the process of securing a network to make it harder to hack into. There are lots of ways to increase network security:
- Anti-malware – Implementing anti-virus software will limit the risk of malware to be executed on the system. Malware can leak information or create backdoors in a system which can be exploited.
- Passwords – Secure passwords make it harder for a hacker to guess. Adding numbers, capitalisation, symbols and random characters make it harder to rack. Default passwords should also be changed as this is universal for all devices first connected.
- Monitoring and auditing – Network traffic monitoring and auditing should be to detect and record suspicious traffic.
- Limiting remote access – By limiting remote access, users will not be able to access services they do not need. This will harden the network as there is less things that a user can do to hack into it.
- Mobile device policy – Having policies for connecting mobile devices to the network will harden network security.
