    • Time length – 5 hours (2x 2 ½ sessions) 
    • Marks available – 28 

 

Task 2: Design – Servers and Storage 

In this task you are required to submit: 

    • A technical proposal covering servers, storage and OS requirements 
    • Justification of planned network architecture 
    • Evidence print screens 
    • Network diagram 

 

Technical Proposal 

The technical proposal is a large document deta iling the requirements and recommendations that the company needs for their server solution. If you want to recommend more than 1 server, justification is needed. Creating a table like this for each server would help:

Applications 

Other 

Windows server 2019 

DHCP 

DNS 

AD 

 

Web server 

Email server 

VPN 

Group policies 

Windows deployment 

 

You must justify the use for each application and their usage in the business. 

After creating a brief table listing the requirements of the server, create detailed technical documentation of each heading (OS, Services, Applications, Other). Justify why you have chosen to run these services and how it will impact on the business’s digital environment. 

The next step would be to recommend the hardware. You should recommend multiple hardware solutions and create arguments why you think one would be more appropriate than the other. You may use internet access to research the hardware solutions. 

Make sure you create a final recommendation for the hardware you have chosen with reasons. 

 

Evidence 

When researching the server solutions, it is important you take screenshots of every page you deduct information from. You must also justify why you have used each source and the reputability of each one. 

Ensure the URL is visible in the screenshot. 

 

Network diagram 

Finally, you should create a network diagram onto the floor plan. This should show where the server(s) are physically placed on the premises.
