Assessment Practice - Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity and Inclusion Assessment Practice

1.Describe, using examples, what is meant by demographics.

Demographics are the people that a business is marketing to. For example, it is the ‘audience’ for a business.

2.Define the term ‘bias’.

Bias refers to an unequal treatment of something due to a demographic.

3.Define the terms ‘perceivable’ and ‘operable’ as used in the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.

User interface components and navigation must be operable.

4.Why is it important that the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines should be considered when creating a retail website?

This is important as everyone should be able to use your website easily so that you can be as inclusive as possible.

5.Compare, using examples, direct and indirect discrimination.

Direct discrimination includes actions like racial segregation and not hiring someone due to their sexual orientation. It is a purposeful discrimination based on protected characteristics. Indirect discrimination includes actions like not hiring someone due to disabled accessibility rules. It is a non-purposeful discrimination based on rules and policy.

6.Identify and describe three different types of discrimination that can be applied to the protected characteristic of disability.

Accessibility – Disabled people must have accessibility throughout workplaces and in public. Absence – An employer firing someone due to disability-based absence. Bullying – Harassment in the workplace due to someone’s disability.

7.Identify and describe two business benefits of diversity and inclusion.

A business can have a diverse mindset. This means they have lots of different ideas from diverse cultures in their business. Also, they can have a better reputation among the public for hiring a diverse workforce.

8.Explain two approaches that could be used to address demographic imbalance in the digital sector.

Education for groups of non-technical people can increase demographic balance in the digital sector. Also, businesses can follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines to be more demographically balanced.

9.Identify and describe two positive effects of digital inclusion on individuals.

People will have easier lives as they can use technology to help them. For example, online banking. Also, people will be able to connect with their family easier through technology-based socialising.

10.Identify and describe two adverse effects on organisations when the principles of digital inclusion are not applied.

Their demographic is smaller as only technical people can access their services/products. Also, they will have more queries through help desks which can take time to process.
